Middle School Advantage

This is a fantastic 4 CD set that covers 7 subjects including Algebra 1, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Typing, Research and Report Writing.

Algebra Smart helps middle school students conquer algebra. Real life kids help students navigate through lessons, tips, hundreds of practice problems and fun games.

This CD begins with the remedial mathematics necessary to understand algebra and then covers, basic concepts, solving equations and inequalities, graphing, exponents and roots, system of open sentences, polynomials and quadratics. There is also a section of endless questions for practice and midterm and final exams to check understanding.

The Information Center tracks progress on lessons, allows students to interface with their textbook and has hints on SAT testing strategy.

When kids get bogged down and restless there is a fun game show style game to play against the nerds.

Science Sleuths is an exceptional science mystery game. There are two mysteries, The Blob and The Exploding Lawnmower, each with 6 levels. Facts and outcome change with each level. These are not merely games. Young scientists must fully investigate using scientific tools and do research to solve the mystery. Kids can watch videos and access periodicals, graphs and tables, a computer database and books to research. While investigating they can analyze chemicals, weigh, measure, smash, cut, burn and take the temperature of objects, take cultures and more. This is an exciting game that integrates fun and learning in an imaginative approach.

Slam Dunk Typing is an awesome typing program that uses basketball to teach keyboarding.

At the Slam Dunk Typing stadium you choose your team and the coach walks you through the game plan which includes the home keys, knowing the keyboard, and finding your rhythm.

There are seven drills and five levels.  Every drill at the training camp  teaches four keys per lesson.  You start at lesson 1 and learn the letters f, r, j and u.  Move on to lesson 2 after you have completed all drills, then lesson 3 and so on.  The regular season covers all the days.  College is challenging, Pro is more difficult, and All-Star is the most advanced.

Students can create impressive reports with the Comptons Interactive Encyclopedia 1999. Research is easy with this encyclopedia. Topics, pictures and multimedia are easy to find and understand, but this is more than just an encyclopedia. Students can access the presentation maker, report starter or interface with a word processor on their system.

Report starter helps students organize reports by making note cards and keeping track of sources. Presentation maker allows them to write beautiful presentations and the word processor interfaces with the encyclopedia making taking notes easy. Research and report writing are made easy.

This 4 CD set gives middle school students a solid foundation for academic success.
