$12.95 Word Explorer Kids, 5-8, learn to read the fun way with this delightful CD by Dorling Kindersley (DK). Kids start by recognizing words using pictures, sounds and stickers. Readers can improve word power by increasing vocabulary and improving spelling. Non-readers can learn words easily by clicking on a picture and listening to a narration. There are four fun games to play, an incredible picture dictionary and three exciting activities. This program contains My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary. When you see this dictionary you will know it is DK. The pictures are bright and beautiful and some animate. The word is large and easy to read and the definition is clear and straightforward. Both word and definition are read aloud. The text also contains hyperlinks to find related words in a click. Kids can cruise through the dictionary by picture or use the index to find words quickly. Fun games let kids play while they are learning. Spell It challenges children to fill in letters to spell words. There are three levels to keep kids going as they learn. Children begin with words like "add" and progress to "cupboard" and disguise." Of course there are pictures to go with the word and the word is pronounced if needed. Alphabet Scramble is a fast and furious game of alphabetical order. Kids must click on letters from a to z, but the letters are moving all over the screen. On the hardest levels the letters are moving pretty fast and kids have only so much time to catch them all. Guess What challenges children to choose words to answer questions. What do zebras have? What do apples grow on? Questions are spoken aloud for non-readers. In What's That Noise kids must listen to a sound and choose the correct picture to match. There are all kinds of sounds including instruments, vehicles, places, jobs and people and animal sounds. Three fun activities encourage kids as they play. In Sticker Hunt kids must find certain stickers to put in their sticker book. They must look-up certain words in the dictionary to find the correct stickers. Kids also collect reward stars as they play for a fun surprise. The All About Me activity is a unique opportunity for kids to explore themselves. Kids fill in information like their name, birthday and a physical description. They then proceed to tell all about their home, school, family, friends, favorites, likes, dislikes, what they can do and much more. This is an exceptional activity that really enjoy. This CD helps kids learn reading, spelling, vocabulary, alphabetical order, homonyms, sound recognition and opposites. Best of all kids are learning the fun DK way and they love it.
