There is a doctor, biologist, language expert, expert trekker and bike mechanic to choose from, but only three team members can go. Next students buy spare bike parts and food. Players must buy wisely because there is a limit on weight and only so much cash. As the trek unfolds, players travel through many countries, cities and villages of Africa. There are 1000s of photos and video clips from the actual bike trek. Players meet people, learn about customs and discover different geographic areas. Students have access to detailed maps and a guide book from the trek leader's journal. Players must read information it is not spoken, making this an excellent tool to strengthen reading comprehension. In addition to learning all about Africa, players will strengthen decision making skills, problem-solving and planning skills. Decisions must be made all along the way. Teammates may become injured or bikes break down. How long should the team bike and at what speed? How much food should the team consume? There are some shortcuts that may or may not be wise.
